WA Labor will provide a fresh approach to tourism in Bunbury through a number of initiatives that will create local jobs and boost the economy.
A McGowan Labor Government will develop Bunbury as a key cruise ship destination and provide $70,000 for an events and marketing project officer to activate the central business district.
The 12 month project position will be responsible for kick-starting events and bringing more visitors to the CBD, which has been neglected under the Barnett Liberal Government.
The initiatives form part of WA Labor’s Plan for Jobs, which will see $425million invested in events and destination marketing to increase the number of international visitors to Western Australia.
Comments from WA Labor Leader Mark McGowan:
“A McGowan Labor will bring in a range of initiatives to increase tourism to the Bunbury region, creating jobs and opportunities for locals and generate confidence in the CBD.
“WA Labor represents a fresh approach for the people of Bunbury, who have been neglected and left behind by the Barnett Liberal Government.
“We have a comprehensive Plan for Jobs that includes developing Bunbury as a cruise ship destination and investing $425million into events and destination marketing for WA.
“To complement these initiatives, and our plan to introduce a no-stop Perth-Bunbury rail service, we will fund the appointment of an events and marketing project officer for the Bunbury CBD.
“This position will be responsible for kick-starting and coordinating events and activities in the CBD, to bring in more visitors and create jobs for locals.”
Comments from WA Labor’s candidate for Bunbury Don Punch:
“Bunbury desperately needs a shot in the arm to stimulate jobs and tourism in the CBD.
“I have been arguing for a fresh approach to tourism and it is fantastic to see WA Labor has a plan to invest in Bunbury, creating jobs and opportunities for locals.
“Bunbury is a fantastic gateway to the south west region and it makes sense to develop the CBD as a vibrant and interesting place to visit.
“This will bring in visitors and create jobs for locals and build confidence in the CBD – something we desperately need.”
