By providing funding for the refurbishment of Ronald McDonald Family Retreat in Bunbury, Lotterywest is supporting the families of seriously ill children, Don Punch MLA, said today.

“Lotterywest is contributing $85 000 to the Home Away from Home Inc T/As Ronald McDonald House Charities WA to go towards the renovation of the Family Retreat which will make sure families are able to enjoy a getaway in an outstanding property”, said Mr Punch.

“The renovations of the property include brand new flooring, upgrades to the kitchen, laundry and bathroom, painting and improvements to the outside of the home including the installation of a brand new patio.

“Over the past eighteen months, the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat in Bunbury has provided 412 nights of accommodation to 66 families so we know this funding is going to benefit a huge number of families and children.

“I can just imagine how beneficial the respite of a week away in the perfect family holiday home would be to a family caring for a seriously ill child and commend both Ronald McDonald House Charities WA for the work they do and Lotterywest for funding this initiative.

“It is so important families are able to relax and enjoy time spent together, and the Family Retreat enables this for families dealing with the stress, pressure and emotional strain of dealing with serious illness.

“Lotterywest re-distribute funds raised through lotto and its other products to community service organisations, and this grant to the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat is a perfect example of just how much value this service provides to our community.”
